After reading an article online of how someone used a Britta water filter to make cheap vodka taste good I came up with an idea. These people discovered that after 4 filtrations the vodka got as good as it was going to get but it took them almost an hour to filter it 4 times through the pitcher.
This is where my design comes in. The basic idea is that by filtering the vodka your remove the impurities and the vodka taste much better, like water. Active charcoal is used by liquor manufactors to remove impurities and if anything, will incress the proof of the vodka. So I designed something where 4 Britta filters can be used at one time and it takes only 10-15 min to filter one bottle. I cut some cheap plastic cups and dropped in the filters and hot glued the outsides to prevent leaks. It works great and taste like water.
In a blind taste test, Grey Goose vodka was tested against Barton's Vodka ($12/1.75L) both filtered and unfiltered. 5/5 people chose the filterend Barton's over the others. Testers could also identify the Barton's unfiltered by smell alone. If you are going to be making mixed drinks that include vodka you probaly use the cheap stuff anyway right? By filtering the cheap vodka you can make drinks that taste good without paying for expensive vodka. Remember, when your making mixed drinks the point is to not taste the vodka!
